Guwahati: National Award-winning filmmaker Samujjal Kashyap’s romantic comedy Lovebirds, which revolves around the idea of new age ‘live in’ relationships and centres around a young couple in love, was released today.

“The film is an effort to celebrate love and life amidst the depressing crisis of the present times”, said Kashyap.

Featuring Alishmita Goswami and Achinta Raj Kashyap in the lead roles, the short seeks to offer audiences a funny, enjoyable and yet heart-warming cinema experience.

Actor Jatin Bora, who also graced the release event, praised the indomitable spirit of everyone involved in the project. “Although the pandemic has challenged all forms of art, it has not kept artists and filmmakers away from reaching out to the audiences”, Bora said. Praising the film for its simplicity, relatability and commonality of emotions, he added, “If Assamese cinema has to develop, filmmaking has to continue.”

The film is produced by KC Digital films, an initiative of Kadambari Creations, whose last offering Arranged starring Lima Das and Ranjeev Lal Barua managed to garner more than 5 lakh views on YouTube and became an instant hit among audiences. Released through YouTube, the expectations from Lovebirds too are sky-high.

As the world continues to grapple with the pandemic and the traditional avenues of entertainment shut, audiences have turned to streaming platforms for some moment of respite. This is why Kashyap, who had also edited the film along with Gautam Mazumdar, states that the idea of Lovebirds is attuned to the larger interest of the society. “It is an effort to spread a positive vibe among people and not seriousness and darkness in the times of stress and anxiety,” he added.

Also present at the event were actors Alishmita Goswami, Achinta Raj Kashyap, Harsh Siddhanta and Hiranya Adhikary who are eagerly looking forward to audiences reactions to the film. The music direction of Lovebirds has been done by Rupam Bhuyan and Rakesh Baro and is shot by Nagen Baishya with Ambarish Borkotoky as the colourist. The makeup art was handled by Bijyeta Patgiri and the assistant responsibilities of the director were shared by Kadambari Kashyap.
