Newly-launched Over-The-Top (OTT) platform, Reeldrama, has released on its app a musical sojourn, Sur Fiesta, which promises of reliving the nostalgic memories and lost gems of Assamese music.
The first season of Sur Fiesta comprises six songs that bring out the best of Assamese folk and old melodies fused with contemporary music.
Rupam Bhuyan, Sarmistha Chakraborty, Birina Pathak, Arupjyoti Baruah, Nahid, and Sannidhya gave their voices and popular actor Barasha Rani Bishaya hosted the season.
Directed by Reeky Sharma and shot by notable cinematographer Prayash Sharma Tamuly and his team, the videos in the series bring the picturesque and verdant greenery of Assam alive on the screen.
Speaking about the experience, Reeky Sharma says, “My passion for music and music arrangement and selection of songs by Ambar Das inspired me for Sur Fiesta. Although, the shoot felt like one big party with talented musicians, outdoor shooting with changing light conditions was a big challenge. We have tried to ensure an extremely fresh-looking stage as well as portraying the signature greenery and nature of Assam in the videos.”
Arranged by Ambar Das, the songs in the series have been recorded, mixed, and mastered by the lead guitarist Sumit Baruah. Notable artists like Rishav Bhuyan on the bass, Biraj Baishya on drums, Bidyut Bikash Bordoloi on percussions, nagara and dogor, and Pradip Deka on the flute and saxophone have contributed to the series.
“It was an absolute pleasure producing the music for Sur Fiesta. We have tried to keep the music very organic yet contemporary. Great care has been taken to record each and every instrument in a state-of-the-art studio. The theme of this series is ‘Growing up in Assam’. I would like to thank the directors of Reeldrama, Sumit Dasgupta and Kuheli Dasgupta for giving absolute creative freedom to break stereotypes and create something beautiful and enduring,” says Ambar Das.
