The Indian movie scenario is evolving at a rapid pace, turning heads internationally with many noteworthy movies. However, what Bollywood has been lagging behind in, was the apt and natural depiction of LGBTQIA characters and their issues. It has been either wrongful representation or over the top  or stereotypical rendition of characters from the LGBTQIA community. But looks like things are set to change.  The trailer of Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhaan gives us a sense that this time Bollywood would be doing justice to this extremely sensitive topic of homosexuality. Despite the court ruling and everything, people in India, families in particular are still not comfortable to talk about homosexuality and people from the LGBTQIA continue to get those looks and stares.

This Hitesh Kewalya movie Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhaan revolves around same-sex love story between Kartik Singh played by the versatile actor Ayushmann Khurrana and Aman Tripathi portrayed by Jitendra Kumar. The 2:41 minute trailer Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhaan tells us how perfectly and brilliantly the movie has captured the prejudices and biases that people, parents, families harbour when it comes to homosexuality. A  light-hearted comedy handling a serious topic.

“Every day is a battle for us, but the battle against our own family is the biggest and the most difficult one.” This line in the movie perfectly sums up the pangs of being a homosexual in an Indian family.

The trailer Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhaan opens with a ‘banger’ so as to put it lightly, with Khurrana’s character explaining to a middle-aged man about how he never ‘decided’ to be gay. The trailer highlights several critical aspects in the life of a gay person. The dialogues are written in a very subtle, witty way, smart enough to drive home the message without being too over the top or on the face.

Khurrana, shirtless donning a rainbow flag and blasting through a megaphone; with the duo recreating the famous train scene of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaenge with a twist in the gender norms has already set the stage for a quirky entertainer this coming February.

It is fun to watch Kumar’s parents trying to convince him that he ‘clearly misunderstood’ his sexual orientation and tried to arrange his marriage with a girl. But finally Kumar and Khurrana declare their love as they kiss in public in front of their parents.

Known for choosing films on taboos of the Indian society, picking movies treating serious social issues like mom getting pregnant at old age, balding in young men to erectile dysfunction, Khurrana has managed not just to score big in the box-office but also make a mark for himself.  It is now kind of given that film Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhaan starring Khurrana would be entertaining and fun with a social message.
