What better way to kick-start 2020 in the Hollywood world than the Golden Globes? The glitz, the glam, the celebs, and the awards made its confluence at the 77th Golden Globe Awards honouring the best in television and film on January 6 at Los Angeles, California.

The 77th Golden Globe Awards ceremony kicked off with Ricky Gervais opening monologue “I don’t care anymore.” The five-time Golden Globe host then went on to say “I am joking: I never did.”

The 77th Golden Globe Awards featured slurry speech by the winner of the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama – Joaquin Phoenix for Joker (who also received a standing ovation so one can’t blame him for being a bit euphoric).

Now, with 34 nominations in both film and television category, Netflix was in the race to win a lot of awards. However, the popular OTT platform went home with just two wins: Laura Dern was awarded Best Supporting Actress for her work in Marriage Story and Olivia Coleman bagged the Best Actress in a Drama Series for her spectacular performance in The Crown.

Another big surprise was the complete shutdown of Disney from the animation category even after putting up three out of five nominations with Toy Story 4, Frozen 2 and The Lion King.
