Just two days of being released and Marvel’s first teaser trailer for the femme fatale standalone Black Widow movie starring Scarlet Johansson has set social media on fire. On day one it was the number one trending on Twitter. Switch to day 2 and it occupied the top trending position on YouTube. But, here is the best bit of the news for Indian Marvel fans. Believe it or not the movie releases a day ahead of the US release i.e., April 30, 2020.

The movie is set to dive deep into the ‘red’ past of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Russian femme fatale assassin Natasha Romanoff and give us a peak into her past, her origins which every Marvel fans are curious about.

With the death of the much-loved OG character in Avengers: Endgame, fans were heartbroken not to have known her past. The past that has propelled this character to be the one she is now. The past which was often mentioned by Clint Barton aka Hawkeye, (quite annoyingly so) thought to have dived down the cliffs of Vormir along with Natasha as she jumped to death to help her teammates. And so we thank Cate Shortland, the director of the movie, for the standalone movie.

The character of femme fatale Black Widow made her first appearance in Iron Man 2 as Pepper Potts’ assistant-and-SHIELD-spy-turned-lethal-assassin. Talk about complex character development in the first appearance.

It is only in Avengers: Age of Ultron that we were able to witness her past in the truest sense. She was trained to be an assassin from a very early age in the Red Room, which is an elite KGB program by Soviet Russia. This prequel will actually highlight her origin story and give justified attention to this very complex character.

The movie is set during the period in between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War and the trailer features flashbacks to Natasha’s early life in training. The appearance of David Harbour as The Red Guardian will give the iconic marvel’s ‘comic relief’ with a hefty punch, quite literally. As Red Guardian is the Soviet’s equivalent of Captain America.

The small clip also showcases an action sequence between Natasha and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) giving us a morsel of amazing fight sequence which is to be expected from a spy movie. Teaming up with Malena (Rachel Weisz), Red Guardian and Yelena (future Black Widow and Natasha’s sister as shown in the trailer) the team comes together to fight their common enemy, the Taskmaster. A mercenary that can copy and absorb his opponent’s strength (overkill much?)
