Anubhav Sinha’s latest directorial Article 15 scooped the ‘audience award’ at the recently-concluded London Indian Film Festival in the UK. The film, which took off with rave reviews from critics, is now being recognised by viewers from across the globe for its stellar performance and subject.

The Ayushmann Khurrana starrer is a hard-hitting film that tackles caste discrimination widely prevalent in India. The film is totally based upon an Article in the Constitution of India which prohibits discrimination against anyone on the basis of caste, creed, religion, sex and more. The plot finds inspiration from many real-life assault and murder cases that throw light on social injustice.

The investigative thriller features Ayushmann as a police officer, with Sayani Gupta, Kumud Mishra, Isha Talwar and Manoj Pahwa in key roles.

Meanwhile, several other personalities also got recognition at the festival. While filmmaker Gurinder Chadha, Buddhadeb Dasgupta and Anurag Kayshyap were honoured with the ‘icon award’, actor Radhika Apte and director Richie Mehta bagged the ‘award for outstanding achievement’. Harshvardhan Kapoor scooped the rising star award at the film festival.

London Indian Film Festival is Europe’s largest South Asian film festival. Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the line-up of the festival was bold and daring for which Article 15 was an easy fit. LIFF ran across five cities in the UK, diversity and equality being in the spotlight.
