Manipur: 6 AMTDGF members arrested ahead of economic blockade

Agartala: Tripura police have sought cooperation from their Mizoram counterparts and alerted the border security forces after three insurgents accused in a gruesome murder case escaped a sub-jail located at Kanchanpur sub-division located under North Tripura district.

Police sources said that the trained militants overpowered the cops and jumped off the walls. “They succeeded in their escape bid as the cops got out of the car to open the main entrance of the sub-jail. Earlier, they were produced before the North Tripura district court on Saturday and after hearing the trio was sent back to the sub-jail in police custody”, said police.

The accused persons are identified as Jiban Reang, Chanmoni Reang and Lafanga Reang. They were arrested as prime accused in the sensational Litan Das murder case.

Das, a small businessman, was kidnapped at gunpoint by unknown assailants.

After months, his dead body was found buried near the Tripura-Mizoram border. The police exhumed Das’ body and the necessary identification process was completed.

On being contacted, Additional Superintendent of police North Tripura district Jacob Darlong said, “We have ordered a manhunt to trace all the accused persons. All the possible hideouts are being raided. We are also constituting a probe panel to investigate the matter.”
