Aizawl: Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for various projects worth Rs. 60.31 crore at Mizoram University (MZU) campus at Tanhril in Aizawl.

The projects were sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Education and UGC under EWS scheme.

The Engineering Projects (India) Limited (EPIL) is selected to take up these 6 projects worth Rs 60.31 crore that include 4 buildings inside the MZU campus and 2 buildings inside the Pachhunga University Campus at College Veng in Aizawl.

Laying the foundation stone for the 6 projects, Governor Kambhampati expressed his sincere gratitude to the Centre for strengthening the university’s earnest effort to provide quality education to the students.

He acknowledged the fact that despite being a relatively young university, the MZU managed to become one of the better universities in the country.

For this, he credited the cumulative efforts of all the stakeholders and particularly praised the tireless effort of the current administration.

He was very pleased to learn that the MZU is one of the leading universities in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The Governor further emphasized the need for skill development and challenged the faculties to produce more and more job creators instead of educated job seekers as per the frameworks of the NEP 2020.

On elaborating the aptness of the NEP 2020 to make India a global knowledge superpower, he affirmed his conviction of the policy being designed in such a way that it meets both the local and global needs of the country.

He also pointed out that this policy was designed to drive India to become economically self-reliant by reciting the lines from Prime Minister Narendra Modi who once stated that “The new education policy will play an important role in the making of Aatmanirbhar (self-reliant), modern, new and prosperous India”.

According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework, Mizoram University was ranked 67 in the country for the year 2020.

The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2021 placed Mizoram University in the 601-800 Rank among 1,115 Universities worldwide.

It was ranked 21 among 49 universities in India, and secured 1st place in North East India.

Mizoram University was also accredited ‘A’ Grade by NAAC in 2019.

As per the report from the Finance Officer, there will be 4 projects inside the MZU Campus at Tanhril and 2 projects inside the PUC at College Veng.
