Aizawl: Mizoram chief minister and Mizo National Front (MNF) president Zoramthanga on Tuesday congratulated party candidate K. Laldawnglian on winning the by-poll to Tuirial assembly seat in north Mizoram Kolasib district.

Laldawngliana called on Zoramthanga at the latter’s office soon after he was elected.

“My best wishes to Pu K. Laldawngliana, who got elected from the Mizo National Front’s @MNFParty ticket at 4-Tuirial (ST) Assembly Constituency Bye Election. May you always be a pillar of strength for the people,” Zoramthanga said in his official Twitter handle.

The ruling MNF, in a statement, also congratulated K. Laldawngliana for winning the by-poll.

The party thanked polling officials and party workers and voters in connection with the bypoll.

It also lauded Mizoram People’s Forum (MPF) and Young Mizo Association (YMA) for their efforts to ensuring a free and fair election.

The party claimed that it has received an improvement in terms of votes from the last assembly polls held in November 2018.

The number of total votes secured by the MNF party has increased by 1,637 votes this time against the total 4,183 votes it secured in the last assembly polls, it said.

Meanwhile, the Congress while accepting its defeat, said that it is amending itself from the past mistake. It claimed that the party has done a commendable job to bring peace and harmony in the state.

“Considering the work it has done in the past and how it has been used by God to develop the people, the Congress will once again come back,” the Congress claimed in a statement.

The Congress also congratulated MNF candidate K. Laldawngliana and thanked the people, polling officials and other stakeholders involved in the bypoll.

While congratulating K. Laldawngliana, the BJP expressed hope that he fulfills what he has promised to the people of Tuirial. The party said that it would make more efforts to ensure that Mizoram walks in the path of development.

It further added that it would make efforts to win the next assembly polls in 2023 to bring development to the people.
