Aizawl: The Mizoram government on Friday ordered fuel rationing on the purchase of diesel and petrol as an economic blockade on National Highway-306 in Assam entered the 12th day on Friday.

The order issued by state Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department said that the state could face a huge crisis and enormous problems in import of oil from Assam due to the inter-state border dispute.

“All filling stations are instructed not to issue petrol and diesel beyond the permitted quantities. Only those vehicles that go to filling stations will be issued oil,” the order said.

The quantity of fuel that can be purchased by heavy motor vehicles such as 6 or 8 or 12 wheeler has been capped at 50 litres and 20 litres for medium motor vehicles like pick-up truck at a time. Three litres of oil was allowed for scooters (scooty), five litres for other two-wheelers, 10 litres for light motor vehicles (LMV) like cars, the order said.

Heavy motor vehicles carrying rice bags, oil and LPG will be allowed to get fuel which will be sufficient for up-down (going and return) travel, it said.

Drawing of fuel in containers or gallon barrels from filling stations is strictly prohibited, it said.

The order also said that all filling stations will have to submit active/present stock position to the state legal metrology department every day by 9 am.

They should not distribute oil without prior permission of the supply department when their stock position stands at 5,000 litres for petrol and 7,000 lifters for high-speed diesel, it added.

All filling stations will be opened between 6 am and 6 pm from Monday to Saturday.

Following the violent clash on July 26 that left at least seven people from Assam, including six policemen, dead and scores injured, the unannounced economic blockade allegedly sponsored by the Assam government has been imposed on the National Highway-306 choking all supplies to Mizoram.

The blockade continued till Friday despite the withdrawal of advisory issued by the Assam government against travel to Mizoram.
