Aizawl: At least 233 people, including 62 children and two security personnel, have tested positive for novel coronavirus in Mizoram, pushing the state COVID-19 caseload to 19,324, a health official said Sunday.

The state also reported two more COVID-19 fatalities in the last 24 hours, which took the death toll to 91, he said.

The 233 new cases were reported from nine districts, with Aizawl reporting the highest at 127, followed by Kolasib and Lunglei with 41 and 15, respectively, he said.

At an RT-PCR laboratory in Zoram Medical College (ZMC), 59 new cases were confirmed. While 20 cases were detected through TrueNat facilities in 5 district hospitals and 154 were detected through Rapid Antigen Test in various districts, he said.

The single-day COVID-19 positivity rate is 6.51 per cent, as the new cases were detected from 3,575 samples, he said.

According to the official, only five patients have travel history, and the remaining 228 had locally contracted the infection.

Of the 233 patients, 113 have developed symptoms of COVID-19, he added. 

Mizoram now has 4,370 COVID-19 active cases, while 14,863 people have recovered from the virus, including 309 on Saturday.

Mizoram has tested over 4.76 lakh samples for COVID-19 so far.

The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients is 76.91 per cent, and the death rate is 0.47 per cent.

According to State Immunisation Officer Dr Lalzawmi, over 4.9 lakh people have been inoculated, and 54,078 of them have received both doses of the vaccine till Saturday.

Meanwhile, the state government has opened Mega Kiosk COVID-19 Testing Centre’ at Vanapa Hall, the state-owned auditorium in Aizawl, on Saturday to facilitate and accelerate COVID-19 sample testing for any desirous person.

Additional COVID-19 testing centres were also inaugurated in other parts of the state on Saturday.
