Acting on specific information, Assam Rifles and Customs department seized 20,000 tablets of Methamphetamine at Chhungte village in Champhai district near the Myanmar border on Thursday, Assam Rifles said in a statement.
Two persons were apprehended for possessing the contraband worth Rs. 1 crore, the statement said. Both the accused and seized contraband were handed over to the Customs department, it said.
Meanwhile, an official of Assam Rifles said that a large haul of explosives bound for Myanmar was recovered by the paramilitary force near Farkawn village in Champhai district recently.
The war-like stores recovered on Monday included over 1.31 ton of Class II CAT -ZZ explosive powder, 3,925 detonators and 2,000 metres of safety fuse, he said.
The explosive substances were believed to be smuggled to coup hit Myanmar, he said.
Two persons were apprehended for transporting the items and were later handed over to the state police, he added.
