Aizawl: Zo Re-Unification Organisation (ZORO) on Friday blamed the Myanmar military for staging a coup and demanded restoration of democracy in Myanmar.
ZORO is a Chin-Kuki- Mizo-Zomi group organisation which seeks re-unification of all Zo people and bringing them under one administrative unit.
The organisation extended solidarity to the Zo or Mizo descendants (Zofate) of Myanmar who have been impacted by the military coup.
“The hardships and sufferings of Zo descendants in Myanmar are the sufferings of all Mizo tribes in the world. We are ever ready to assist our Mizo brothers and sisters in the restive country,” a statement by the organisation said.
It said that all the Zo brothers and sisters in the world stand for the “Zofate” of Myanmar.
The organisation said that the Zo descendants in Myanmar have had faced severe hardship under military regime for decades.
“ZORO will not betray the Zo tribes in Myanmar and will extend all possible helps to deliver them from their suffering,” it said.
It urged all Mizo tribes in the world to extend solidarity to their brothers and sisters in Myanmar.
The organisation expressed regret for the military coup in Myanmar and asked the military to give power to the people.
Mizoram shares 404 km international border with Myanmar.
Many Mizo or Zo tribes live in Myanmar especially in Chin state.
Earlier on Wednesday state’s apex student body Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) staged sit-in demonstration to extend solidarity to the Mizo communities in Myanmar.
On February 1, Myanmar military- Tatmadaw declared a year-long state of emergency and detained elected members of Myanmar’s ruling party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), including Aung Sang Suu Kyi.
The coup d’état occurred the day before the Parliament of Myanmar was due to swear in the members elected at the November 2020 general election.
