Aizawl: At least 43 people, including 34 security personnel, have been found infected with novel coronavirus in Mizoram in the last 24 hours, pushing the state’s Covid-19 caseload to cross 1,900 mark, a statement issued by State Information and Public Relations department said on Monday.

The state has reported a total Covid-19 cases of 1,908 of which 1,563 were males and 345 were females.

The statement said that 37 cases were confirmed at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) and through Rapid Antigen Test from Aizawl district while 6 cases were confirmed at TrueNat machine from Lunglei district.

Mizoram COVID-19 statistics

Of the 34 security personnel, 16 belonged to Assam Rifles and 18 to Border Security Force (BSF).

Ten of the Assam Rifle personnel were placed under quarantine in Aizawl and six in Lunglei district while 18 BSF jawans were quarantined in Aizawl.

The statement said that five people from Aizawl placed under home quarantine were diagnosed with Covid-19 during contact tracing between September 21-23 and they have no travel history.

Six Assam Rifles personnel from Lunglei district also have no travel history in recent times and they were believed to have contracted the virus through positive contact, it said.

It said that the remaining 32 patients, including 10 AR personnel, 18 BSF jawans, three state residents and a worker of Border Road Organisation (BRO) have returned from other states recently.

All the patients are out of danger as they are asymptomatic, it said.

According to state health department, there are 535 active patients in the state while 1,373 people have already recovered from the virus.

The state has not reported any fatality due to Covid-19.

Altogether 74,326 samples have been tested till Sunday evening.
