Synthetic football turf will be a stepping stone for development of sports in Mizoram, will be beneficial for whole Mizo community, says CM Zoramthanga
Aizawl: Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga laid the foundation stone for a synthetic football turf at Armed Veng 1st MAP Football Ground in Aizawl on Thursday.
At the foundation ceremony, CM Zoramthanga said that this synthetic football turf is a stepping stone for the development of sports in Mizoram. He said that what used to be the ground of the 1st Mizoram Armed Police will now be beneficial for the whole Mizo community. The CM added, "With the development of sports infrastructure, we can become an example for the nation, and this is the aim of the government."
He added that though the Covid-19 pandemic has created havoc for the state and the nation as a whole, development projects that have already been put up in the previous year shall not be put on hold.
Home minister Lalchamliana also said that the MoU signed between Mizoram Police and Sports Council will pave the way for developing sporting skills among the Mizo youths.
Sports minister Robert Romawia Royte in his speech said that 1st Bn MAP football ground will get a thorough and world-class makeover which will be beneficial not only for the Mizos but for all Northeastern states.
The master plan for 1st MAP Football Ground was completed with a budget of Rs 46.35 crore. The gallery will accommodate 5,000 people with four levels of basements. The first basement will be 3,093 sq metres with a parking space for 50 cars and 250 two-wheelers.
The second and third basements will be used as dormitory, guest room, kitchen, dining room, toilet and bathroom, with the dormitory able to accommodate 200 guests. The fourth basement will have a gymnasium room and quarters for chowkidars.
Artificial Football Turf will be 110 metre long and 74 metre wide playing area will be 105 metre long and 68 metre wide. Football ground will have a fencing and cement concrete paver block footpath. Under the RCC Pavilion, there will be 2 player changing rooms and 2 toilets.
Under the Khelo India Scheme, the Union ministry of youth affairs and sports had sanctioned the first installment of Rs 1,50,00,000 on November 11 last year, and Décor India Complete Sports Solution, Guwahati has been selected as the contractor and work order was issued on February 26, this year.
