Over 80% COVID-19 patients recovered in Mizoram

Of the total 151 patients, 122 have so far recovered, which is 80.7 per cent of the total patients, sources say

Aizawl: More than 80 per cent of Covid-19 infected patients have recovered from the deadly virus in barely two months, an official of state health department said on Tuesday.

Of the total 151 patients, 122 have so far recovered, which is 80.7 per cent of the total patients, the official said.

He said that at least 61 people, which included 45 from Lunglei district and eight each from Aizawl and Mamit districts, were discharged from hospitals and dedicated Covid-19 health centres (DCHC) or Covid-19 care centres (CCC) on Tuesday.

According to the official, Mizoram reported the first Covid-19 case on March 24 and the first patient, who had travel history to Amsterdam, was discharged from Zoram Medical College (ZMC) near Aizawl on May 9.

He said that the state did not report any fresh Covid-19 case since Sunday and the total active cases have shrunk to 29.

On June 1, 12 people had tested positive for Covid-19, which is the first reported case after the recovery of the first patient.

Since then the state has been witnessing a spike in Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to 151 in a month.

The highest single day spike was reported June 10 wherein 51 people had tested positive for the virus.

Last week, health minister Dr R Lalthangliana had said that testing of pending samples have been more or less completed.

According to health department, a total of 13,746 samples have been tested till Tuesday, of which 13,358 were tested at ZMC, 330 at Lunglei civil hospital and 58 samples were tested in Assam.

Among the 11 districts, Lunglei in the southern part of the state reported the highest Covid-19 case with 47, followed by Aizawl district with 38 and Mamit with 18.

Kolasib district reported 11 cases, Lawngtlai- eight, Champhai and Siaha reported nine cases each, Saitual, Khawzawl and Serchhip reported three cases each.

Kolasib, Lawngtlai, Hnahthial and Saitual are coronavirus free districts in the state as of now.
