Mizoram: 10 more test COVID-19 positive, state tally jumps to 140

Aizawl: Ten more people, including an eight-year-old boy, have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Mizoram in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 140, government sources said.

According to the latest report released by state information and public relation department, as many as 945 samples were tested at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) on Friday, of which four males and six females were found to be infected with Covid-19.

Altogether 760 samples came out negative while results of 184 samples were awaited, the report said.

Of the 10 newly infected patients, seven have returned from Maharashtra and three from Delhi. Four belonged to Mizoram western belt Mamit district bordering Bangladesh and Tripura, and three live in Champhai district near Myanmar border, two in Serchhip district and one in Khawzawl district, the report said.

Apart from the eight-year-old boy, nine patients are between 21 and 46 years of age, it said.

Nine of the patients are asymptomatic while one patient who developed symptoms for Covid-19 have been admitted to a Dedicated Covid-19 Health Centre (DCHC).

Mizoram reported first Covid-19 case on March 24 and the first patient, a 52-year-old pastor, who had a travel history to the Netherlands, was discharged from ZMC on May 9.

The Northeastern state-reported Covid-19 cases for the second time on June 1 in which altogether 12 people had tested positive for the virus.

Since then the state has been witnessing a spike in Covid-19 cases, taking the tally from 1 to 140 in just three weeks.

Eight people, who had tested positive on June 1, were recovered and discharged from ZMC on Friday.
