Aizawl: 12 persons have tested COVID-19 positive in Mizoram.
Announcing this, state chief minister Zoramthanga said in his Twitter, “Alert! 12 new Covid-19 positive cases confirmed at Zoram Medical College, Mizoram. All are under professional care. #AlertYes #PanicNo #Mizoram #WeShallOvercome.”
Sources in state health department inform here that out of these 12 people, 11 are females and one male. These people have returned to the state from Delhi and Kolkata recently.
Mizoram is reporting Covid-19 case three weeks after its’ first patient recovered and discharge from a hospital on May 9.
The first patient, a 52- year-old pastor, who had travel history to Netherlands, tested positive for the virus on March 24.
Talking to EastMojo, Dr Pachuau Lalmalsawma, state nodal officer of Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) and health department spokesperson, said that 12 persons, aged between 18 and 40 years, have tested positive for novel coronavirus as their result came out on Monday night.
Of the 12 people, 10 were Delhi returnees while 2 have returned from Kolkata recently, he said.
“Out of these persons, 11 of them were inmates of a quarantine facility in Kolasib district and the rest was at Zoram Medical College (ZMC). All the patients were asymptomatic and 11 patients from Kolasib district were admitted at ZMC on early Tuesday,” he said.
ZMC is a dedicated CovId-19 treatment hospital in the state.
Meanwhile, urging people not to create panic as all the patients were placed under quarantine since their arrival from Delhi and Kolkata, Dr Pachuau Lalmalsawma said that at least five localities of Aizawl-- Dawrpui, Chaltlang, Zarkawt, Bawngkawn and Chanmari -- have announced an indefinite closure of shops in their respective localities to avoid panic buying after new cases have been reported in the state.
Meanwhile, a 26-year-old girl died while en-route to Mizoram from Maharashtra by a special train. The incident took place on Monday at around 11 pm when the victim, identified as Marlia Vanlalhmangaihzuali, who is a resident of Keifang in Saitual district, fell from a speeding train near Siliguri in West Bengal, Pune Mizo Welfare Association chairman Vanlalkima said.
The girl, who worked in a private company in Pune, was returning home along with others in the special train, he said. She was rushed to nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
