Aizawl: The wife and two children of the state's lone coronavirus patient, who were isolated at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) in Aizawl, were discharged from the hospital, a state health department official said on Sunday.

They were sent to the isolation ward at the state’s lone medical college after their father tested positive on March 25. “The coronavirus patient's wife and two children were discharged from the hospital on Saturday after their samples tested negative,” a top health official said.

Earlier, their blood samples were sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). “Results of the samples were declared on Friday and were found to be negative,” he said. The official also said that the COVID-19 patient’s relatives were closely monitored by the local level task force and they were put under home quarantine.

Mizoram reported its first case of novel coronavirus on March 25 when a 50-year-old pastor, who returned from the Netherlands, tested positive. He was sent the to isolation ward at ZMC along with his family on the night of March 24, soon after his result was learnt.

The health department said that the patient showed signs of improvement and is out of critical state.

The health department also traced people, whom the patient came in contact with.

On Saturday, one suspected patient was sent to ZMC for isolation after he was found developing symptoms of coronavirus, officials said.

Twelve samples, including the suspected patients, were sent to Silchar for test and results are yet to be declared, they said.

The Mizoram government has been expediting measures to fight the rapidly increasing coronavirus spread after it reported first case on March 25.

Responding to a call given by Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee (MKHC), a conglomerate of 15 major churches in the state, every household held prayers on Saturday night seeking God’s intervention so that Mizoam is save from cornavirus and the global outbreak is immediately contained.
