Aizawl: A probe has been initiated against the alleged forged bank cheque of the Mizoram government, the police said on Wednesday.

The police said that the bank cheque amounting to Rs 10 crore was recently deposited to a bank in Bengalaru. It came to light on Wednesday evening.

The police said that they are collecting details with concern departments and are investigating the matter.

It is reported that a section of media quoting Bengalaru rural police said on Wednesday that a miscreant visited Vijaya Bank (Now Bank of Baroda) in Bengalaru on March 6 and attempted to transfer Rs 10 crore by presenting bogus cheque in favour of Shivam Granites.

The cheque was drawn on the Mizoram rural department’s account in the Aizawl branch of Vijaya Bank and was allegedly issued by the project director of Mizoram roads attached to the department, the report said.

Police have registered a case of forgery and cheating following a complaint lodged by Chandrapur branch of Vijaya Bank manager Varun Bhatia.

Police suspect that the miscreant, who could not be identified due to non-functioning of CCTV cameras at the bank, forged a cheque leaf or stole it from the office of the project director.

Mizoram official could not be contacted on this case.
