The theme of this year’s ‘Chapchar Kut’ festival is ‘Zonun zemawi chawi san’, which means upholding the virtues and values of Mizo culture
Aizawl: The biggest Mizo festival 'Chapchar Kut' was celebrated at AR Gound in Aizawl, alongside many other venues across all the districts of Mizoram, on Thursday.
Chief minister Zoramthanga graced the occasion as the ‘Kut Pa’ (chief of the festival). The theme of this year’s festival was ‘Zonun zemawi chawi san’, which means upholding the virtues and values of Mizo culture.
In his speech, the chief minister said, “We must work to keep on burning the virtues of our blessings, our altruistic nature so that the nation and the world could learn from us.”
This year’s Chapchar Kut hosted diplomatic delegates from Laos, Myanmar, Indonesia, Brunei, Cambodia, Phillipines and Vietnam.
Over 95 branches of Young Mizo Association (YMA) participated in a mass bamboo dance at the opening ceremony.
There were also live music concerts from various artists within the state and from neighbouring Myanmar.
This year’s Chapchar Kut saw the largest turnout from the masses. This shows that the new generation has started to value Mizo culture.
Handloom and food stalls were also put up which were greatly admired and visited by the people.
