Aizawl: A total of 39 lakh tablets of methamphetamine were seized by Mizoram Police from the Vairengte check-gate situated along Assam-Mizoram border on Saturday morning.

The tablets were packed inside 390 polythene packets, hidden inside a false compartment of a body floor of a Tata truck with registration number MZ-01-S-4548.

The seized drugs weigh 429 kg and their value as per international market is said to be over Rs 97.5 crore.

The driver of the vehicle, Ramnunmawia (30) of Zokhawthar village in Champhai district, has been arrested and will be booked under Section 22 (c)/25 of the ND&PS Act.

On preliminary interrogation, the driver said that Lalsiammawia (aka Lalawma) of Champhai directed him to hand over the vehicle to a certain person in Silchar, whose particulars were not disclosed.

The driver, however, revealed that he was promised a sum of Rs 5,000 for the assignment. The vehicle, as per documents, was registered by the name of Richard Vanlaltanpuia, s/o Vanlalhruaia of Zokhawthar village.
