Mizoram journalist L Pachuau, litterateur C Kamlova get Padma Shri

2 personalities from Mizoram -- Lalbiaktanga Pachuau & C Kamlova -- were awarded with Padma Shri for their contribution to journalism and Hindi literature, respectively

Aizawl: Two eminent persons from Mizoram -- Lalbiaktanga Pachuau and C Kamlova -- have been conferred with Padma Shri -- the fourth highest civilian honour of the country.

Veteran journalist Pachuau, 94, started his career in 1953 with a local daily called Zoram Thupuan. He is currently the editor of a local newspaper called Zoram Tlangau, which he founded in 1970.

He was also the president of Mizoram Journalist Association (MJA) for three consecutive terms and co-founded the Association for Voluntary Blood Donation (AVBD) in 2001.

Pachuau served in the Indian Army during the Second World War and was one the key delegates at the peace talks between the erstwhile insurgent group Mizo National Front and the Indian government during the 1980s.

Meanwhile, C Kamlova was honoured for his contribution in the field of Hindi literature among the Mizos. He was awarded the 'Bhasha Bharti Award' 2003-04 by the Central Institute of Indian Languages at Mysore for the book he wrote in Hindi titled Anubhav ki Diuphant.

Kamlova also received the 'Rashtrya Samman (Award) 2004-05' bestowed on him by the Union ministry of human resource development for his contribution in the Hindi-Mizo dictionary.

Kamlova contributed towards the developing of Hindi language in Mizoram. In 2000, he helped in the recognition of Hindi Praveen (Hindi BA) by the state and Central governments.

In 2011, the Mizoram Hindi Prachar Sabha finally had their headquarters at the state’s Secretariat Complex and Kamlova was a great contributor.

He has organised several worshops to promote Hindi among the Mizos.
