New campus of Mizoram University likely to come up in Lunglei; Centre agrees in principle on condition that state govt will have to provide land & infrastructure free of cost
Aizawl: Mizoram University (MZU) is likely to get a campus in the southern part of the state, sources in the university said.
Mizoram University vice-chancellor KRS Sambasiva Rao said that the Central government in principle has agreed to the proposal for the establishment of the southern campus of Mizoram University in Lunglei town with a condition that the state government need to provide the necessary land and infrastructure free of cost.
Rao also said that a letter informing about the establishment of the proposed southern campus was sent to the state government and to the university by Union ministry of human resource development on Friday.
He added that the southern campus of MZU was the long-cherished desire of the people.
The copy of the Union home ministry’s letter, a copy of which was accessed by EastMojo, said that the state government will provide land for the campus free of cost and necessary funds for the creation of infrastructure will be arranged by the university.
It also stated that the vice-chancellor is being asked to ensure availability of land for the establishment of the southern campus at Lunglei.
