Aizawl: Mizoram will organise a first of its kind ‘state games’ in December this year, informed an official on Thursday. The event will be held from December 9 to 13 this year as part of the government’s endeavour to promote games and sports in the state.
The state government has allocated Rs 1.5 crore for the purpose.
The meeting of Mizoram State Games Committee had earlier formed the State Level Implementing & Monitoring Committee (SLIMC) and later decided to form a constituency-level committee to be headed by respective MLAs.
As a follow-up to the decision, a meeting in connection with the proposed state games was held on Thursday for Aizawl East-I constituency under the leadership of constituency MLA and chief minister Zoramthanga.
During the five-day event, the competition will be held in at least 40 disciplines under the supervision of 32 sports associations. The competition will be held constituency-wise.
Mizoram will also host International Documentary Film Festival from October 16 to 18, an official source said on Thursday. The event will be organised by the Union ministry of information and broadcasting in collaboration with Mizoram information and public relations department, the sources added.
At least 20 documentary films will be premiered during the three-day event, which will be graced by renowned filmmaker from Northeast -- Gautam Bora and Haobam Pawan Kumar.
