Proud moment for supporters’ group from Mizoram as its banner gets a place at stadium in London -- home of the popular English football club -- during match on Sept 22
Aizawl: The Mizo Chelsea Supporters’ Club (MCSC) has achieved another milestone on September 22, when its fan club banner was displayed at Stamford Bridge -- home of the famous English professional football club in London, UK.
Since 2012, the MCSC has requested Chelsea FC to display its banner. Their dream finally came true when it was prominently displayed during a match between Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC on Sunday.
The elated fans in Aizawl got together and watched the event on a big screen, feeling proud that they are the only fan club to have received such recognition among the 200-plus supporters’ clubs in India.
To celebrate the auspicious day, the fans gathered and cut a big cake and sang the football fan club’s theme song.
Mizoram has many different football fan clubs. But what sets MCSC apart from the others is their dedication to charity work. Since the fan club was established in 2011, it was not used as a platform to discuss only about football, but with a goal to ‘do good deeds for society in the name of Chelsea FC’.
Many fan clubs or group of fans across the globe would go to pubs and celebrate Chelsea’s win with drinks and party. But not the Mizo Chelsea fan group. Every time, Chelsea FC wins a championship, the fans would donate blood to various hospitals in the state.
They are the few among fan clubs to be featured in the official Chelsea FC magazine about their charity works and blood donation. The fans also mentioned that their contribution to society is highly appreciated by the club.
MCSC is also one of the biggest fan clubs with over 1,000 members. They are currently placed at the 'Gold Tier’, which is the second highest level, in Chelsea FC’s list of fan clubs.
Talking to EastMojo, Ricky Colney, one of the fan club founding members said, “We have achieved our dream of displaying the fan club banner at Stamford Bridge. Our next goal is for Chelsea FC to play a match at Rajiv Gandhi stadium in Aizawl. We are currently in touch with the club’s director for its success.”
The fans have immense pride that their banner is displayed at one of the oldest football stadiums. They will continue to carry out their charity rides and blood donation camps and uphold their motto to do good for society in the name of Chelsea FC.
