Guwahati: Assam Rifles and the special narcotics department of Mizoram conducted a joint operation in Chhinga Veng, Aizwal on Wednesday, recovering a huge cache of arms and ammunition. Two persons were held in this connection.
The search operation was conducted on the basis of specific inputs from sources. During the raid, the team of Assam Rifles and state agency recovered 199 live rounds of .22 ammunition and apprehended two persons carrying the illegal items.
The apprehended individuals have been identified as Lalhmangaiha, 24, resident of Lawngtlai, Mizoram and his accomplice, Limona, 31, a resident of Bangladesh.
The nabbed persons along with recovered ammunition have been handed over to Aizwal police for further investigation.
Earlier in the month of March a huge cache of arms and ammunition including 23 AK-47 rifles and three persons were apprehended in Mizoram. Security forces recovered 23 AK-47 rifles, one Combat Browning Automatic rifle (CBAR), one Singapore made 5.56 Automatic Light Machine Gun, 86 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 67 rounds of CBAR, 24 rounds of Automatic Light Machine Gun and 30 magazines which were hidden in an abandoned electric transformer.
