Representing state police, SI Liansanga, OC of Tlabung police station, hands over Rs 20,000 to Zokunga Sailo, president of Tlabung branch of Young Mizo Association
Aizawl: In a commendable gesture, the Mizoram Police have contributed financial assistance to the flood-hit people of the state. Representing the state police, sub-inspector Liansanga, officer-in-charge of Tlabung police station, handed over a sum of Rs 20,000 from the Mizoram Police ex gratia relief fund to Zokunga Sailo, president of Tlabung branch of the Young Mizo Association (YMA).
Over 350 families in Tlabung and neighbouring towns and villages have been affected after Khawthlangtuipui river started overflowing at Lawngtlai district near the Indo-Bangladesh border. Volunteers of YMA and other organisations are working tirelessly to help the flood-hit people of the state. Over 1,000 families have been evacuated from the area.
Several towns and villages remained inaccessible and some areas of the district have been cut off from the rest of the state due to landslides, while power supply and telecommunication services were also severely disrupted across the state.
Rain-triggered floods in the Northeast have killed over a dozen people and displaced more than a million from their homes. The death toll keeps rising as the rain keeps on pouring.
