Aizawl: The Mizoram government on Wednesday decided to scout for child labourers within Aizawl district, an official said.

The decision was made at the meeting of District Level Committee on Child Labour for Aizawl District (DLCCL) held under the chairmanship of Aizawl district deputy commissioner Vanlalngaihsaka, he said.

The meeting decided to find out child labourers below 14 years working in various unhealthy and hazardous working places in Aizawl district within a stipulated time.

Vanlalngaihsaka informed the meeting that some child labourers were reportedly being found in some places in Aizawl district three years ago in violation of Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986.

He said that the district administration decided to scout for child labourers as the report of their existence stood against the 2011 Census. The exercise will be conducted four times in a year, he added.

The DLCCL was constituted in 2011 according to the Mizoram Child Labour Rules, 2010. It is headed by the district deputy commissioner.

Other members are district superintendent of police, project director of district rural development agencies, district information and public relation officer, district education officer, district medical officer, district social welfare officer, settlement officer, representative of Young Mizo Association (YMA) and Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP), among others.
