Guwahati: Being a politician means shouldering a Herculean task of representing your people and their expectations, but that doesn’t mean one has to give up their other profession. Mizoram’s Dr ZR Thiamsanga is setting one such example for politicians who are experts in other fields as well.

The MLA from Champhai North, who is also a qualified doctor, is often seen helping people in distress. In a latest picture doing rounds on social media, Thiamsanga is seen helping an accident victim on the road.

This is not the first time that the Mizo National Front (MNF) leader has been seen discharging his duties as a doctor. In another incident earlier in February, Thiamsanga successfully operated on a patient, Lalrantluangi, who reportedly had lumps in her uterus. The MLA also frequently visits patients from his constituency who are admitted in Aizawl Civil Hospital.

Thiamsanga is a doctor of medicine (obstetrics and gynaecology) from Manipur University and also the vice-chairman of the health and family welfare board. He is equally devoted to both his professions.

Earlier this year, while coming back from an official duty, Thiamsanga met a patient on the way to Aizawl for emergency treatment. The doctor took it upon himself to help the person, who was being taken for medical assistance in a car.

Even prior to becoming a legislator, Thiamsanga was a doctor round the clock, always available. In an incident from September 2018, while roaming in Khawzawl town in Champhai, he was approached by a woman on the road. She told him of her sickness and without hesitation he gave her a prescription on the road. However, he didn’t have a paper with him, so he just wrote it on her palm.

The doctor truly lives up to the good medical practice of rendering service to humanity promptly and with full respect.

His acts also mirror his modest and down-to-earth behaviour. On the first day of the new state assembly in 2018, Thiamsanga chose to bike-pool with Lalrinawma, the deputy speaker of Mizoram legislative assembly.
