Aizawl: The Mizoram government on Monday launched the third phase of Mizoram Kailawn -- a business plan contest and entrepreneurship summit initiated by the erstwhile state government in partnership with IIM Calcutta Innovation Park.

The contest was launched by state chief secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo during a function at Aijal Club in Aizawl.

Chuaungo congratulated the efforts made by the state government and IIM Calcutta Innovation Park to promote entrepreneurship among young and budding business aspirants.

He said that the initiative gave him high hope to see the Mizo youths coming up with innovative ideas and succeed in their chosen field and areas of interest. “Our approach should be development of ecosystem for entrepreneurs; to choose what is viable and sustainable, and not to be individual centric,” he added.

Chuaungo said that focusing on promoting entrepreneurship atmosphere should continue so that more and more youngsters may choose to make a conscious decision to hone their skills and pursue entrepreneurship, which in turn generates employment and contribute towards state’s economy.

He encouraged the youths to follow their dreams and passion, not to be afraid of failure but to take it as a stepping stone.

Also speaking at the launch, planning department secretary and alternate chairman of Mizoram State Entrepreneurship Development & Monitoring Committee (MEDMOC), Dr C Vanlalramsanga said their target is to develop and incubate at least a thousand successful startups in the state through the programme together with Mizoram Rahbi and Leitlangpui Rahbi within a span of five years to boost entrepreneurship ecosystem in the state.

He said that the Mizoram Kawilawn programme in 2017 and 2018 have attracted more than 620 applicants, of which 83 were selected to attend boot-camps.

“The third edition of the business plan contest and submit will be an improved version with more outreach programme to be held at district levels and at various institutions, boot-camps and pitching competitions to held at district levels,” he said.

Mizoram Kailawn is a multi-stakeholder initiative started by Lal Thanhawla-led Congress government in 2017 under its flagship programme -- New Economic Development Policy (NEDP).
