Mizoram: Govt draws flak over subordinate recruiting agency

The move is an insult to the church and the people and shows that the Zoramthanga govt is unreliable and dishonest, says Opposition Zoram People’s Movement

Aizawl: The Mizoram government on Thursday drew flak from opposition parties for its decision to constitute subordinate recruiting agency to transfer the task of recruitment of Group B non-gazetted posts from the Mizoram Public Service Commission (MPSC).

In separate statements, the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) and the Congress said that the move was an attempt to favour MNF party workers.

Stating that it was an insult to the church and the people, ZPM said the move was a clear manifestation of the MNF government led by CM Zoramthanga being unreliable and dishonest.

The party said that the MNF had been voted out of power for 10 years due to its bad rule. “Following its abject apology, people again voted back MNF to power in the state assembly polls last year in the hope of the party doing its best for the state. Barely six months after assuming power, the MNF repeated its age-old tradition of favouring its members,” ZPM said.

Stating the move “unfortunate,” the Congress said it was “nepotism” to recruit MNF workers under the state government in the pretext of relieving the state’s premier recruiting agency of its burden.

The opposition urged the state government to revoke its decision and instead retain a healthy competition created for educated youths as practiced under the erstwhile Congress government.

Mizo Students; Union (MSU), the second largest student body in the state, also slammed the government for its decision to constitute subordinate recruiting agency, which according to it will only result in recruitment of jobs through backstairs influence.

The cabinet meeting on Monday had decided to constitute Mizoram Subordinate Services Selection Board to relieve the MPSC of its arduous task in conducting recruitment for Group 'B' non-gazetted posts.

Established in 1989, the MPSC is state’s premier recruiting agency responsible for appointments to and examinations for state civil services and various posts under the state government.
