Aizawl: After going for four months on ‘vote on account’ (an interim budget passed by the outgoing government), Mizoram is all set to get a regular budget in June.

Assembly under-secretary Lalthangmawia told EastMojo that chief minister Zoramthanga, who also holds the finance portfolio in the state government, will present the state’s annual budget for the fiscal year 2019-2020 in the upcoming assembly session to be held between June 12 and 27.

He said that the meeting of Business Advisory Committee (BAC) held under the chairmanship of speaker Lalrinliana Sailo recently decided that the state budget will be presented on June 13.

During the assembly session held in March, Zoramthanga had presented vote on account for the first four months (April to July) of the fiscal 2019-2020 amounting to Rs 3,588.85 crore.

Though the regular budget had already been prepared, the assembly could not pass it due to imposition of model code of conduct in connection with the Lok Sabha polls.

Lalthangmawia said that the assembly has received at least 200 starred questions and 40 un-starred questions till Tuesday for the session. One bill, The Mizoram Land Revenue (Amendment) Bill, 2019, has also been received to be laid during the session, he added.

According to the official, questions and bills can be submitted till June 12 and June 23 respectively. The assembly will conclude on June 27.

In the last session held in March, the state legislature had passed at least 14 bills, including The Mizoram Liquor (Prohibition) Bill, 2019, and The Mizoram Maintenance of Household Register Bill, 2019.

State governor Jagdish Mukhi is yet to give his assent to the household register bill.
