Aizawl: The youth wing of opposition Congress on Wednesday accused the Mizo National Front (MNF)-led state government of neglecting welfare of youths.
“The government ignored and did not take any measure to improve the Mizoram Youth Commission (MYC), which was established during its previous government in 2008 and later upgraded by the Congress government,” the Congress youth said in a statement.
MYC was set up by an Act of the Mizoram State Legislature in 2008. It has been given statutory responsibility for promotion, exploration and embracement of youth welfare. The commission concentrated its activity in providing coaching and guidance for All India Services and State Services.
The youth wing said the erstwhile Congress government led by former chief minister Lal Thanhawla had a vision for the development of the youths owing to which it had upgraded the MYC to ensure that many youths get jobs.
It said that the commission conducted free coaching for various competitive exams including UPSC, National Defence Academy, Combined Defence Service, Central Armed Forces, IIT-JEE & NEET, banks and Staff Selection Commission as a result of which many youth got employed under the Central government, Armed forces and banks, among others.
Sources said that the state government led by chief minister Zoramthanga could not bring the MYC forward and take any new initiative towards development of youth through the commission due to financial constraint.
The MNF government has also not appointed chairman for the commission since it assumed power in December last year.
