Aizawl: Aizawl district court has sentenced two men to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for possessing cannabis (ganja), a court official said on Friday.
The official said that Lucy Lalrinthari, judge of a special court under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act, recently convicted Zamkhawgin (45), a resident of Lamka in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, and Lalsangzuala (31) from NE Tlangnuam village on the Mizoram-Manipur border and sentenced them to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment.
A fine of Rs 500 each was also slapped against the two convicts.
According to the police, Zamkhawgin and Lalsangzuala were arrested by officials of state excise and narcotics department on March 17, 2017 with 20.150 kg of cannabis, which they smuggled from Manipur.
The special court heard their cases several times and came out with a final verdict with evidence confirming their guilt.
The two convicts are currently incarcerated at central jail at Tanhril in Aizawl.
