Aizawl: The Mizoram government headed by chief minister Zoramthanga would set up state construction corporation to execute construction works of both central and state projects, state information and communication minister Robert Romawia Royte said on Monday.

Royte told reporters at a news conference that the decision to establish the Mizoram Government Construction Corporation (MGCC) was already taken at the meeting of council of ministers on January 10 after the state government felt the need for setting up earning agency to earn profit or revenue to the state’s exchequer by undertaking projects works from the Centre and the state government.

"The MGCC would serve as public sector undertaking to undertake construction works under the Centre and state projects. It would felicitate a large number of local contractors and unemployed youths to get employment and work major projects,” Royte said.

Royte, who also holds sports and tourism, said music, tourism and sports, would be recognised by the state government as industries so as to include investors in the fields. He said that the move was to promote music, tourism and sports to achieve sustainable development.

The minister said that the state government is making massive efforts to immediately implement its flagship porgramme- Socio Economic Development Porgramme (SEDP). He claimed that the state government has llocated Rs 860 crore for SEDP in the state’s budget during the fiscal 2019-2020.

Apart from development scheme for farmers, the SEDP also has many provisions for development of unemployed youths, he said. He said that the MNF government is committed to fulfill its poll promises.

Royte slammed Congress and Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) for allegedly misleading the people by leveling allegation that MNF is being tie-up with BJP. He said that the MNF not only did not work with the BJP in the state, but also instrumental in preventing the saffron party from growing stronger by inducting its works to the regional party.

He said that the total number of BJP workers joining MNF will reach to 4,000 after new members are being inducted into the regional party this week.
