Alliance launches scathing attack on the saffron party, says there has been no big development under it despite change in existing system and institutions
Aizawl: Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) and Congress, the two parties that forged alliance to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and assembly by-election to Aizawl West-I seat, on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the BJP government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying there has been no big development under it despite change in existing system and institutions.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference in Aizawl, ZPM-Congress publicity chairman and alliance spokesperson Lallianchhunga said many people faced enormous problems due to introduction of the ‘Direct Benefit Transfer’ for LPG, which came into effect from 2015. He alleged that many household consumers faced problem as LPG subsidies were not deposited to their bank accounts.
Lallianchunga also said that demonetisation, implemented in November 2016 to eradicate black money and fake currency, was a complete failure as 99.3 per cent of the scrapped notes returned to Reserve Bank of India.
He said that the demonetization never achieved it target and about 100 people lost their lives because of it. The ZMP-Congress media chief also accused the BJP government of robbing the poor by directing customers to maintain minimum bank balance.
He said that the BJP government asked people to open bank account with zero balance and later directed them to maintain minimum balance ranging from Rs 1,000-3,000 depending on their locations.
The BJP government has greatly benefited from the system and about Rs 5,000 crore was collected from customers as penalties for non-maintenance of minimum balance in their accounts during 2017-2018, he said.
Lallianchhunga said that the BJP government has interfered in the food habits of Christian and Muslim minorities by banning beef. He said that at least 28 people were killed between 2014 and 2017 in cow related violence and of the 32 out of 63 cases of cow related violence were from states governed by the BJP.
Ninety-seven per cent of cow related attacks were reported after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government came to power in May 2014, he said. The leader also alleged that the BJP government made fake promises by saying that it will generate two crore jobs for the unemployed youths in a year.
He said that over 11 million Indians lost their jobs during 2018 and with the onset of the current year India has been grappled with the greatest unemployment crisis in 45 years. “In order to overcome all these crisis and problems, the BJP should be dethroned at the Centre,” he said.
Urging the people to vote for ZPM-Congress combine nominee, Lalllianchhunga said that the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), in fact, is a NDA’s partner because it is the constituent of NEDA. He alleged that the BJP strategically nominated a Chakma candidate to woo Chakma voters and help the MNF as Chakma people are traditional supporters of Congress.
