Mizoram Assembly budget session adjourned sine die

During the course of session, the legislature passed vote on account for four months (April to July) for the fiscal 2019-2020 amounting to Rs 3,588.85 crore

Aizawl: The seven-day budget session of the Mizoram legislative assembly was adjourned sine die by Speaker Lalrinliana Sailo on Wednesday.

The speaker announced the sine die adjournment in the evening after giving a brief report on the proceedings of the session. The session, which commenced from March 12 was the second session of the eighth state legislative assembly.

During the course of session, the legislature passed vote on account for four months (April to July) for the fiscal 2019-2020 amounting to Rs 3,588.85 crore and supplementary demands for grant amounting to Rs 2926.55 crore for the year 2018-19 presented by chief minister and finance minister Zoramthanga.

The state legislature also passed 14 out of 15 government bills entered, including The Mizoram Liquor (Prohibition) Bill, 2019, and The Mizoram Maintenance of Household Register Bill, 2019, and also adopted two private member resolutions on- UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People and welcoming the decision of the Centre to shift the Assam Rifles battalion headquarters from the heart of the Aizawl city. One official resolution opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and urging the Centre not to re-introduce the bill in the future was also adopted.

Out of 139 starred questions, 135 have been admitted and 77 were placed in list of business. 33 questions have been answered in the house.

The legislature also laid 14 papers during the session. Tributes were paid to former legislator F Manghnuna, who died on January 11 at the age of 81.

Sailo thanked the members for maintaining decorum in the house during the session.
