Shillong: AL Hek, Chairman of the Central Scheme Monitoring Committee and BJP legislator inspected the newly-constructed Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Shillong on Thursday.
The inspection was carried out after videos of the roof of the newly constructed bus terminal leaking went viral on social media.

Hek said: “After receiving so many complaints we were compelled to inspect the bus terminal and see for ourselves as we are concerned about public safety. If such kind of news gets spread outside the state, it leaves a bad reputation.”
The role of the Central Scheme Monitoring Committee is to look after all central-sponsored schemes in the state, he added.
He said that he along with the Deputy General Manager of ISBT had inspected the bus terminal and had suggested the authorities work on the leakages and cracks of the building.

Hek suggested the need for a power back-up such as generator so that people using the services at ISBT do not face any inconveniences. He added, “Irregular power connectivity is also another concern at the ISBT Shillong.” .
Notably, the ISBT was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on July 24, 2021 and the project cost Rs 48 crore.
