Shillong: Amid the efforts put in by the home department to ease traffic congestion in Shillong city, Meghalaya home minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Tuesday said that the school bus project will be implemented to ease the congestion.
Rymbui said the department is facing challenges to implement the project but is trying its best to work on it. He informed that there are a total of 100 buses that will be rolled out for students in the city.
“I don’t have the details for how many schools but the project is on. Whatever initiative is taken is in the best interest of the student community,” said Rymbui.
It maybe mentioned that chief minister Conrad K Sangma said in his Budget speech that the government will introduce a pool school bus system with a fleet size of around 100 minibuses to reduce traffic congestion in Shillong.
A fleet of electric buses for public transport in Shillong city will also be introduced. The chief minister has sanctioned Rs 20 crore towards improving mobility in Shillong.
