Shillong: A meeting of the heads of all the constituents of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) is currently underway in Shillong.

The meeting was called by Meghalaya chief minister and National People’s Party head Conrad K Sangma under pressure from the party’s minor allies.

According to the office of the chief minister, some of the issues that are being discussed in the meeting include Union home minister Amit Shah’s visit to the state, the inter-state boundary row, power issues and other matters of importance.

Speculations are rife that there is a strong demand from the coalition parties to remove power minister James Sangma after several corruption allegations were leveled against him. The meeting is expected to discuss the matter as well.

The meeting started at 2:20 pm and is currently underway. The presidents and MLAs of the different parties who are part of the meeting are BJP president Ernest Mawrie, National Congress Party (NCP) president Saleng Sangma, Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MLA Adelbert Nongrum, UDP MLA Lahkmen Rymbui, HSPDP President KP Pangiang, NPP president WR Kharlukhi, People’s Democratic Front (PDF) president Banteidor Lyngdoh, Lambor Malngiang (IND) and Santar Klaus Sunn (IND).
