Shillong: Following citizen complaints about sex workers working at the Barik-Dhanketi road in Shillong City, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) conducted a raid on July 2 at around 11 pm.

Informing the media, East Khasi Hills District Superintendent of Police (SP), Sylvester Nongtnger said, “Many people were seen coming in vehicles as clients. A raid was conducted by the AHTU, East Khasi Hills where three sex workers along with three clients were apprehended.”

A case was registered at the Laitumkhrah police station under the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act and legal action has been taken.

Nongtnger further mentioned that to prevent these activities in the area, apart from booking sex workers, they also apprehended clients and booked them too under the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act and the Meghalaya Police Act.
