Shillong: A nurse working at Ganesh Das Government Maternal and Child Health Hospital in Shillong reportedly died of COVID-19 on Sunday evening, becoming the second ‘COVID warrior’ to succumb to the dreaded coronavirus in Meghalaya.
Incidentally, the deceased — Manisha Turnia, 32 — was six-and-a-half-month pregnant, said reports. She is survived by her husband and a six-year-old son.
In a condolence message posted on Facebook, Turnia’s colleague Ruby Pyngrope wrote: “Yet another day and yet another death of a frontline warrior. This time it is our colleague, a hard-working, cheerful and young colleague. Manisha Turnia, 32 years old. What’s more devastating is , she was carrying a six months old baby and left behind a six years old son. I felt a shiver down my spine when I heard the news. You were too young to leave too soon…”
Meanwhile, the Trained Nurses’ Association of India (TNAI), Meghalaya state branch, also shared a condolence message with her family. “Her passing away will leave a void in our lives, in the hearts of all those who knew her and have served the sick and the suffering along with her,” it said.
TNAI added that Turnia’s death is a great loss not just to the hospital where she was working and dedicated her service till her last days but also to the nursing fraternity in general.
Turnia’s death is the second incident of a COVID warrior’s succumbing to the coronavirus in the state. On May 23, Badaphun Rapsang, 28, reportedly died of COVID-19. She was working as a nurse in the obstetrics and gynaecology department at NEIGRIHMS.
