Are you ready to FLYBIG from Shillong to Delhi?

Shillong: If you live in Meghalaya, you no longer have to travel three hours to catch a flight to Delhi from the Guwahati airport. From December 21, the state will finally have a direct flight to Delhi.

Flybig (Big Charter Pvt. Ltd), India’s new schedule commuter airline, was awarded the contract for this route through a Tender floated by Meghalaya Transport Corporation at the beginning of the year.

It will initially operate on this route twice a week. Due to Covid19 restrictions, Flybig will take some time to operate its own aircraft on this route. However, to commence operations immediately, Flybig is making arrangements to operate a Bombardier Q400 aircraft (which is as per the Agreement) available as charter. Additional sectors and flights out of Shillong are planned in the subsequent months.

The flight on December 21, 2020, will depart from New Delhi at 1000 hrs and arrive in Shillong at 1310 hrs. It will depart from Shillong at 1350 hrs and arrive in Delhi at 1700 hrs. Minister in charge of Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar would be representing the State Government in the inaugural flight.

As per the details on the website of flybig.in, the fares start at Rs 4999+taxes. The state has also chosen to begin its first Delhi-Shillong flight on the day it opens for tourists from outside the state. The state will also have the Umling entry and exit point inaugurated on December 21, 2020.

So far, the Umroi airport had flights operating to Kolkata. Indigo airlines were the operating flight, but due to COVID-19 pandemic, Shillong-Kolkata flight was suspended in March 2020.
