Meghalaya: Electricity board employees end agitation after assurance
Shillong: The employees of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) have decided to suspend their agitation upon receiving a positive outcome from the management.
President of Coordination Committee of Registered MeECL (Employees) Associations and Unions, PK Shulet on Wednesday evening informed, “After receiving a positive response received from our managing director and seeing his commitment to solving all our demands in stages, we have decided to suspend our agitation.”
As a short time solution, the October salary will be disbursed by Wednesday evening, while the November salary will be disbursed by next week. The pay for December and subsequent months will be disbursed within the first week of every month.
According to Shulet discussions were also held on other issues relating to Terminal benefits which will be pursued with Government, unnecessary loan shall be stopped.
Shulet informed that the management has assured that the privatisation of MeECL will not be done.
“I would personally like to thank each one of you for the unflinching support you have given to the Committee in its efforts to further the interest of the employees in particular and the Organisation in General,” said Shulet.
Earlier during the day the employees staged a hunger strike at the premises of MeECL at Lumjingshai. According to the employees they have not received their salaries for the month of October and November. The purpose of their agitation is to demand the management to release their salaries and pending arrears immediately.
