1,500 kg of explosives seized from East Jaintia Hills
Guwahati: East Jaintia Hills police seized a huge cache of 1,525 kg explosive from a village under Khliehriat Police Station on Wednesday night.
A case under the Explosives Act, 1884 and other relevant sections of law has been registered, and a probe on the same.
Acting on reliable information, a white Bolero, bearing Assam registration number which was loaded with explosives was intercepted at Kongong. Police arrested the two persons inside the car and found 10 cartons filled with 250 kg explosives (2,000 gelatin sticks), and 1,000 live detonators.
The apprehended persons also led to the arrest of four more people from Umpleng, who subsequently led the police team to a concealed place from where the explosives were suspected to have been loaded to the seized Bolero.
A release from East Jaintia Hills Police said, "A search of the said place was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses and from where 51 cartons loaded with approximately 1,275Kgs of Explosive (10,200 Gelatine Sticks), 5,000 Live Detenators and 8 Rools of Cordtex (Fuse) suspected to be of the same kind used in the recent 4 Kilo blast were Seized. Altogether approximately 1,525(One Thousand Five Hundred and Twenty Five) KGs of Explosive were seized in the said operation."
Speaking with EastMojo SP of East Jaintia Hills Police, Deepak Kumar Palecha informed that investigation is underway. He said that the police have been on alert following the incident at Soo Kilo area.
