Shillong: Seven organisations from across Meghalaya came together to protest at the Malki Ground in Shillong over the non-implementation of the Inner Line Permit in the state.
The protesters also demanded action against the Slow progress of setting up Entry & Exit Gates in the state, the Citizenship Amendment Act and the Non-inclusion of Khasi language in the 8th Schedule.
The seven organisations that carried out this demonstration were the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP), Hynñiewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Ri-Bhoi Youth Front (RBYF), Garo Students’ Union (GSU), A’chik Youth Welfare Organisation (AYWO), and the Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE).
Speaking with EastMojo, KSU President Lambok Marngar said, “The main aim of this demonstration is concerning the delay by the Central government to approve the resolution. We expect that the Central government should respect the aspirations of the people of Meghalaya to address this issue and to fulfill the desire of the citizens of the state.”
The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly had passed the ILP on December 19, 2019. Following that, several attempts were made by the government to apprise the Central Government of the Resolution. Meghalaya chief minister had recently informed that the central government is still examining the Resolution.
