Meghalaya: COVID-19 tests to be chargeable effective Oct 16

BPL section will be exempted and high risk contacts will not have to pay for the COVID tests

Shillong: The Meghalaya government on Tuesday announced that COVID-19 testing will now be chargeable. People entering Meghalaya will have to pay Rs 500 for the Rapid Antigen Test, which is mandatory.

Deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong informed that a notification will be issued by Tuesday evening, effective from October 16, 2020.

“Rapid antigen testing of individuals while entering the state of Meghalaya be it on a permanent or on business is mandatory,” informed Tynsong.

This antigen test will be on payment basis from October 16, and the cost of each antigen test is Rs 500 per test per person, said Tynsong.

Starting October 16, RAT, RT-PCR, CBNAAT, and TrueNAT testing will also be payable at Rs 3,200 per test.

The BPL section will be exempted and will not have to pay for any of these tests since they are entitled to NFSA. Tynsong informed that testing charges would not be applicable for high-risk contacts, being monitored by district surveillance team.

Tynsong informed that the testing will be available at Pasteur, Civil Nongpoh, Civil Tura, CHC Resubelpara, Civil Nongstoin, Civil Baghmara, Civil Williamnagar, Civil Ampati, CHC Mawkyrwat, Nazareth Hospital, Bethany Hospital and Robert Hospital. The COVID-19 testing will not be taken care under MHIS.
