Meghalaya reports 4 COVID-19 related deaths in less than 24 hrs

A 21-year-old male patient, resident of Jaintia Hills, passed away at NEIGRIHMS Hospital on September 10 making him the youngest in the state to succumb to the virus

Shillong: COVID-19 related deaths in Meghalaya have sent alarm bells ringing with four new COVID deaths occurring in 24 hours and taking the total deaths in the state to 24.

The state on Friday, a 21-year-old male patient died, making him the youngest in the state to succumb to the virus. A resident of Jaintia Hills, he was admitted at NEIGRIHMS Hospital and passed away on September 10 due to type 1 respiratory failure.

The other 3 deaths fall under the age category of 40 above, 1 female and 2 male and all the 3 patients had comorbidities.

Meanwhile, the state continues to witness a spike in COVID-19 cases with 151 active cases recorded for the day, taking the total active cases to 1,534.

The following is a breakdown of the 151 active cases.

East Jaintia Hills - 27 (All are random sampling at Star Cement

East Khasi Hills -98 (41 Forces/Paramilitary, 57 Others)

North Garo Hills -3 all high-risk contacts

South West Garo Hills-3

West Garo Hills -17 (7 Forces/Paramilitary & 10 Others)

West Jaintia Hills -1, West Khasi Hills - 2

A total of 47 fresh recovered were recorded, taking the total recovered cases to 1,889.

The total number of samples sent for testing is 1,09,518 out of which 1,04,937 have tested negative, and approximately 1,134 results are awaited. The total number of returnees is 35,237.
