BSF personnel meet health dept officials to apprise them of situation; request them to lift restrictions of containment zone; East Khasi Hills DC to take final call
Shillong: The BSF Campus in Umpling locality of Shillong in Meghalaya may soon get relief from being under the containment zone tag since all the BSF personnel who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered. The area rang alarm bells after an alleged community spread was reported among the BSF personnel at Umpling, following which the deputy commissioner of East Khasi Hills district had to immediately seal the area.
Addressing the media, director of health services Dr Aman Warr on Tuesday said that the BSF authorities had met the health department to apprise them of the situation.
“They have requested to lift the restrictions of the containment zone at Umpling. We have forwarded the same to the deputy commissioner who is authorised to make the final decision. So, the restrictions may be lifted by today or tomorrow,” said Dr Warr.
Meanwhile, Dr Warr made an inspection at the Shillong Times office after the premises were declared as a containment zone due to the two cases detected earlier.
Dr Warr informed that the Shillong Times office and its premises have been sanitised.
He informed that since all the high-risk and low-risk cases of Shillong Times office have all tested negative, the health department felt that there is no bar to lift the containment zone restrictions.
However, certain conditions have been put forth for the 44 high-risk contacts, who are to remain in quarantine and not go outside of their home quarantine or community quarantine, neither are they allowed to enter the office premises.
The 44 contacts can only enter office once they complete the 10-day quarantine protocol and by also giving certificate of completion of quarantine.
Dr Warr added that the decision to lift the containment zone restriction at Shillong Times office now lies on the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District.
